Refund Policy
How refunds work for attendees and organisers on Utsavs — covering cancellations, no-shows, and processing timelines.
1. Overview
Utsavs is a platform that connects event organisers and attendees. Because events are created and managed independently by organisers, refund eligibility depends on both the organiser's stated policy and the circumstances of the request. This page explains how refunds work across the different scenarios you may encounter.
2. Free Event Registrations
If you registered for a free event, there is no payment to refund. You may contact the organiser directly if you need to cancel your spot or transfer it to someone else. Utsavs does not intervene in free-event cancellations as no money has changed hands through the platform.
3. Paid Tickets — General Policy
For paid tickets, the organiser's refund policy governs whether a refund is issued. Before purchasing a ticket, you should review the organiser's stated cancellation terms on the event page. As a general guide:
- If the organiser has a no-refund policy, Utsavs cannot override that on their behalf.
- If the organiser allows refunds, you must request one within the timeframe they specify.
- Refund requests made after the event date will not be considered.
- Utsavs does not process partial refunds — refunds are for the full ticket price only.
4. Event Cancelled by the Organiser
If an organiser cancels an event after tickets have been sold, attendees are entitled to a full refund of the ticket price paid. In this case:
- The organiser is responsible for initiating refunds to all registered attendees.
- Refunds will be credited back to the original payment method via Razorpay.
- Utsavs will work with the organiser to facilitate this process and may intervene if the organiser fails to act.
- Processing time is 5–10 business days from the date of cancellation confirmation.
5. Event Postponed or Materially Changed
If an event is postponed or significantly changed (different venue, date, format, or speakers), attendees may be eligible for a refund at the organiser's discretion. We recommend:
- Contacting the organiser directly as soon as the change is announced.
- Raising a dispute with Utsavs support if the organiser is unresponsive within 5 business days.
- Utsavs will review the circumstances and may facilitate a refund where the change was material and undisclosed at the time of purchase.
6. Platform Fee
If an event is cancelled by the organiser, the platform fee (3%) charged at checkout is also refunded in full to the attendee.
If a refund is issued at the attendee's request (e.g., they can no longer attend), the platform fee is non-refundable. This fee covers payment processing and platform costs that have already been incurred.
The platform fee is always calculated on the original ticket price, not the discounted price. For example, if a Rs. 1,000 ticket has a 20% promo code discount, the platform fee is Rs. 30 (3% of Rs. 1,000), not Rs. 24. This is disclosed at checkout before payment.
If the organiser's policy is no refunds and the event proceeds as listed, no refund of any component — ticket price or platform fee — will be issued.
7. Refunds on Discounted Tickets
If you purchased a ticket using a promo code and are eligible for a refund:
- The refund amount is the discounted price you actually paid — not the original ticket price.
- The promo code usage count may or may not be restored at the organiser's discretion.
- Platform fees follow the same rules as non-discounted tickets (refundable only if the organiser cancels the event).
8. No-Show Policy
If you purchased a ticket but did not attend the event, and the event was held as described, you are not entitled to a refund. No-shows are treated the same as used tickets from the platform's perspective.
9. Duplicate Payments
If you were charged twice for the same ticket due to a technical error, please contact us immediately at support@utsavs.app with your payment details. We will investigate and issue a full refund for the duplicate charge within 5 business days.
10. How to Request a Refund
To request a refund:
- Step 1: Contact the organiser directly using the contact details on the event page.
- Step 2: If the organiser does not respond within 5 business days, email support@utsavs.app with your name, registered email, event name, and transaction ID.
- Step 3: Our team will review the request and respond within 3 business days.
- Step 4: If approved, the refund will be processed to your original payment method via Razorpay.
11. Refund Processing Time
Once a refund is approved and initiated, the time to receive funds depends on your payment method:
- UPI payments: typically 1–3 business days.
- Debit or credit card payments: typically 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
- Net banking: typically 3–5 business days.
- Razorpay wallet: typically 1–2 business days.
12. Chargebacks
Initiating a chargeback with your bank without first contacting Utsavs may result in suspension of your account. We encourage all attendees to raise a dispute with us first — we resolve legitimate complaints quickly and without the delays associated with bank disputes.
13. Organiser Obligations
Organisers who collect paid registrations through Utsavs agree to:
- Honour the refund policy disclosed on their event page.
- Issue refunds promptly in the event of cancellation.
- Not collect payments for events they do not intend to deliver.
- Respond to attendee refund requests within 5 business days.
14. Disputes and Escalation
If you believe an organiser has acted in bad faith — for example, by collecting payments and failing to deliver an event — please contact Utsavs support at support@utsavs.app. We take these situations seriously and will work to protect attendees where there is clear evidence of non-delivery. Utsavs reserves the right to withhold organiser payouts in active dispute situations.
15. Plan Purchases
Organiser plan purchases (Starter, Growth, Pro) are one-time payments and are non-refundable. Plans do not expire — they remain active until the included event slots and QR email limits are used. By purchasing a plan, you acknowledge that it is a digital product and that you have reviewed the features and limits before payment.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected with an updated date at the top of this page. The policy in effect at the time of your purchase governs your transaction.
